Summer is still here, which is the regular “hot” season of real estate, but let’s be real, it’s been a hot market for some time! If you\’re a seller, this is a sweet time, but for the buyer’s out there, this can be a stressful time.
We know that stress is a common denominator in many health conditions and diseases, some stats say as much as 90% of illness is related to stress. It is critical that we incorporate stress reduction as part of a regular routine.
Here are a few ideas to help:
1. Surrender: this is the simplest, yet the hardest !
Essentially, this is the act of letting go to attachment for things to be a certain way. When we resist the reality of what is, this causes suffering in some form. Believing that the perfect house is coming for you, in perfect timing, maybe somewhat “Pollyanna”, but it takes the pressure off.
2. Sleep: this is your body’s reset button!
If you are struggling with getting at least 7 hours or more of sleep, it’s time to do something about it. Insomnia and consequent fatigue have many detrimental effects. Be sure your bedroom is set up for successful sleep; ideally no TV or screen time (tablet, phone, computer) at least 1 hour before bed. This helps you avoid blue light, which tells your brain it’s still “daytime”, to stay awake, which will inhibit your body’s ability to make your natural melatonin. If you must be working late, consider Blue Light Blocking eye glasses.
Pro Tip: Melatonin is available as a supplement, and can be helpful for some, ideal dose is just 0.5-1mg. Sustained release formulas are available if you have trouble staying asleep.
3. Supplements: there are so many natural alternatives, without the addictive potential of pharmaceuticals. Consider talking to your doctor about these:
GABA: this is a natural anti-anxiety support, and is also a neurotransmitter found in our brain.
Magnesium: many are deficient in this key mineral, that does over 300 reactions in our body chemistry.
Ashwagandha: a botanical herb, known as an adaptogen, to help your body cope with stress, anxiety, and potentially support a better mood.
4. Silence: Prayer or Meditation are avenues to practice silence.
Meditation is simply tuning into “being” rather than “doing or thinking”. While it may be hard at first to quiet your mind, consider starting with just 3 minutes of sitting in silence, and focus on your breath. If a thought comes, don’t stay attached, simply let it go, and refocus on your breath.
